Lowriders
Image Information

There are other images I must include on this page- MH

In the early 80s I was living in Santa Fe New Mexico, working as the photography editor for the Santa Fe New Mexican. The newspaper billed itself as the oldest newspaper in the west. We were vrey photo-oriented.

My best friend Mike lived 40 minutes north in the Española Valley in a town called Alcalde.

At that time, and still to an extent today, the area was ver car concious. having a cool old car was the goal for many of the locals.

Lowriders were popular in northern New Mexico. I drove an old Plymouth and after hanging around the valley for a while with my friend Mike, I was acceprted by the local spanish culture.

Over the course of several months I made photographs of the cars and the people.
